Kitley House

About Kitley House & Country Estate

A hidden gem of a country house

The one-mile meandering drive to our country house and wedding venue in South Devon is well worth the wait. At the end of the tree-lined driveway, you’ll be greeted by the silvery facade of our 500-year-old former manor house.

Faced in marble quarried on the estate, Kitley House is an imposing Grade-One-listed building with a steep gabled roof and a multitude of tall chimney pots. Inside, this sense of history continues. The wood-panelled reception with its coats of arms and striking castellated fireplace sets the scene for the rest of this elegant building.

Outside, hundreds of acres of quintessentially English countryside are yours to explore: rolling hills, landscaped terraces, extensive woodlands, a lake and the tranquil Yealm estuary. It’s not surprising Kitley has long been recognised as a place of outstanding beauty, featured on television and in many films.

Kitley is grand but it’s far from austere and it’s exclusively yours for the duration of your private booking! You’ll find a warm welcome here and a relaxing, friendly atmosphere.

Venture down the drive and find out what a very special place awaits you!

Dining

Fresh food prepared by our chef and his team, using local ingredients, many from our estate. We have dedicated dates for you to enjoy our à la carte menu for dinner, Sunday roasts or to indulge in a Devon cream tea.

Cream Teas

The ultimate mid-afternoon treat. We have dedicated dates for you to indulge in a Devon cream tea or go the whole hog with a full afternoon tea. Depending on the weather, events are held in one of our stunning reception rooms or on the terrace with views of the estate and lake. Freshly-brewed tea or a glass of bubbly are the perfect accompaniment to our finger sandwiches, scones and cakes.

We found Kitley House to be a gem hidden away within acres of woodland just waiting to be explored. The house is full of historic charm and the rooms and service were faultless. Worth the drive from London and will be returning.

Kitley has a very different feel to it now. It is cosier and visibly more cared for now that it is a family run hotel. The staff are still as friendly as they have ever been but the place itself now appears to be being loved.
